Sharks Earn First Win of Season with 3-1 Victory Over Chaminade

HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University men's soccer picked up its first win of the 2026 season Tuesday night, defeating Chaminade 3-1 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Sharks improved to 1-1-0 with the victory.

HPU controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Chaminade 11-4 and putting four shots on goal before the break. Noah Clarkson opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing a chance off an assist from Kelly Takara to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

The Sharks doubled their advantage shortly after halftime. Pedro Ashley found the back of the net in the 50th minute to make it 2-0. HPU continued to apply pressure throughout the second half before Anthony Najafi added a third goal in the 85th minute, pushing the lead to 3-0. Both goals were unassisted according to the official scoring summary.

Chaminade avoided the shutout in the 88th minute when Joshua Cox scored off an assist from Santiago Fernandez, producing the final 3-1 score.

HPU finished with an 18-7 advantage in shots and placed eight attempts on goal. Paul Norberg led the Sharks with four shots, while Olle Ridelius added three and Takara recorded two, both on goal. Clarkson, Ashley and Najafi each scored on their lone shot of the night.

Oliver Holt started in goal for the Sharks and made two saves while keeping Chaminade scoreless through the opening 45 minutes. Eduardo Marin played the second half, with Chaminade's lone goal coming in the closing minutes.

HPU also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks and committed eight fouls compared with Chaminade's 13.
