Ray Johnson begins his second year helping with the Sharks basketball program.
 
Johnson served on the All-Army men’s basketball coaching staff which won silver in the Armed Forces Tournament Championship in 2019. His responsibilities included conducting combines and mini camps for military athletes assisting them in receiving invites to NCAA and NAIA tryouts. Throughout his military career he has coached teams that have traveled to Guam, Korea and Japan winning numerous Pacific Wide Military Tournaments 
 
Johnson was also an assistant coach at Indiana University Southeast during the 2017-2018 season. He helped guide the Grenadiers to a 24-9 record, River States Conference Runner-up and a NAIA Sweet 16 appearance. Johnson was promoted to associate head coach for his dedication and commitment to the program in December 2017. During his tenure he coached three NAIA All-Americans, and the River States Conference scoring leader. 
 
Johnson started his collegiate coaching career at Augusta (Ga.) in 2016. The team compiled a 24-8 record, earned regular season Peach Belt Conference Championship and reached the NCAA Division II Southeast Region semifinal. Johnson was also fortunate to coach the Peach Belt Player of the Year and all-time leading scorer. He was recognized by the Fort Gordon Garrison Commander for contributing over 750 hours at the university while still on active duty.
 
Johnson also has experience on the operations side of the athletics; he has worked for Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball, Louisville Sports Commission, ESPN Heisman House, Ironman and University of Louisville.
 
A native of Decatur, Georgia. Johnson earned his master’s in coaching & sports administration from Concordia Irvine. He played collegiately at the Southern Mississippi, and McCook College in Nebraska.
 
Johnson is married to his wife Mari, and they have four children.
