Chris Fisher 2017 Head Shot

Chris Fisher

A fixture in Hawai‘i Pacific University soccer history, Chris Fisher is in his 16th season as the head men’s soccer coach at HPU and is second only to the legendary Frank Doyle in terms of service as leader of the beautiful sport.

Fisher led the Sharks to the 2011 PacWest Conference Championship and is the school’s all-time winningest soccer coach 103-92-26 record over his 16 previous seasons. He is the Dean of PacWest Conference soccer coaches. He has won eight or more games in eight of his 18 seasons and has three seasons of 10-plus victories.

Fisher’s 2011 PacWest Champions posted a 14-4 record that stands as the high for HPU in the Division II era. He also directed HPU to a 12-6 outcome (second in the PacWest) in 2010. The Sharks battled to a 6-8-2 mark in 2019.

Fisher has developed elite talents at HPU, coaching Chance Bukowski to HPU soccer’s first First Team All-America in 2011 and third team in 2010, and Sven Koenig to All-America honors in 2016. He coached George Fochive two seasons at HPU before he went on to play with MLS’ Portland Timbers and Viborg FF of the Danish Superliga.

Fisher has produced many all-region players during his time as HPU. Bukowski (2010, 2011), Kainoa Kahui (2011), Fochive (2011), Alejandro Porras (2012), Felipe Silva (2013), Brais Garcia (2013, 2014), Olivier Rolland (2013), Erik Kemsies (2013, 2016), Jackson Groves (2014, 2015), Javier Risco Garcia (2015), and Sven Koenig (2016) have all received the region’s top honor.

Fisher was no stranger to HPU fans when he became head coach for the 2010 season having spent three years as an assistant coach to Scott Liedtke. The then Sea Warriors went 30-16-5 during that time and finished second in the Pacific West Conference twice.

Originally from Pleasanton, California, Fisher graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he played four seasons for the men’s soccer team. Fisher then took his game to the professional ranks, playing for FC Borge Pyronis in France, the California Jaguars and Chico Rooks of the United Soccer League. He later finished his career with the Hawai‘i Tsunami in the USISL Pro League. Most recently Fisher coached at Vaiete Soccer Club and Riggers Soccer Club in Hawai‘i.
