Honolulu (10/1/10) – At Saint Andrew's Priory, the HPU women's volleyball team swept BYU-Hawaii, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21). HPU improves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the PacWest, while BYUH drops to 5-5 and 2-1 in conference.
Kelly Balanay posted a match-high 13 kills for HPU, who has won the last four meetings with BYUH. Kyra Pelayo recorded 20 digs, also a match-high.
Julia Becker led BYUH with 10 kills.
HPU rallied in game one before handling the Seasiders in games two and three. The Sea Warriors trailed 17-11 before kills by Balanay and Natasha Bell brought them back into the game. HPU trailed 22-18 before winning the next seven points to capture the game one win.
Bell added 11 kills for HPU to go along with 12 digs. Sanoe Recca recorded 12 digs and setter Pihana Kea posted 13 digs and 39 assists.
HPU next heads to the mainland four five conference matches. The Sea Warriors will first travel to San Francisco to take on Academy of Art on Wednesday, October 6. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
