Personal: Born in San Diego...daughter of Margie and Bernard Balanay...has one sister, Jessie (24)...nickname is Kels or Kel Bel...hobbies are swimming, dancing, and doing anything outside...favorite movies are She’s The Man, Billy Madison, and The Island...her father is her favorite athlete...chose HPU because of the location and that everybody is so kind...in 10 years time she hopes to be happily married with a successful career and enjoying life.

Prior to HPU: A graduate of Valhalla High School in San Diego, Califonia...played as a middle blocker under coach Doug Babington...selected as the 2007 Grossmont South League Athlete of the Year...also selected as the San Diego Union Tribune Athlete of the Week and Valhalla Saga Athlete of the Month.

HPU: Begins fourth season. 2009: Played and started in all 25 matches...registered a team-high 289 kills with a .306 attack percentage...also added 70 block assist, 21 solo blocks, and 14 aces...named First-Team All-PacWest for the third consecutive season. 2008: Played in 23 matches and 85 games...selected All-PacWest First-Team...led the team with 2.89 digs per game...led the PacWest in hitting percentage at .313...also posted 98 blocks on the season, tops for HPU and second in the PacWest. 2007: Played in all 26 matches and was tied for second in games played with 96...recorded 307 total kills for a 3.2 kills per game average...posted a team season high 26 kills versus Chaminade (9/29)...recorded double figures in kills in 14 matches...earned two PacWest Player of the Week selections, and was named to the All-PacWest First-Team.
