Honolulu, HI (10/21/10) - At Saint Andrew's Priory, the HPU women's volleyball team defeated Chaminade, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19). The Lady Sea Warriors improve to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in the PacWest, while Chaminade falls to 4-12 overall and 1-8 in conference.
Kelly Balanay led HPU with 11 kills and Kyra Pelayo added 30 digs. Chaminade was paced by Poerava Gantt who recorded 11 kills.
The Sea Warriors won games one and three handily, but topped the Swords in a close game two. HPU trailed early before kills by Balanay and Brittney Wood (5 K, 2 B) tied the score at 6-6. The game was tight from then on. After Chaminade tied the score at 21-21, a pair of kills by Natasha Bell gave HPU a 24-22 lead and a Chaminade attacking error ended the game.
Bell recorded five kills and 10 digs and Pihana Kea posted a match-high 30 assists.
HPU returns to action this Saturday, October 23, at BYU-Hawaii. Start time in Laie, HI is set for 7:30 p.m.
