St. George, UT (10/2/10) - At Hansen Field on the Dixie State College campus, the HPU women's soccer team was defeated by the Red Storm, 2-0. The Lady Sea Warriors fell to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the PacWest, while DSC improves to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference.
The loss was a repeat of two days ago when HPU fell to Dixie State by the same score. Mindy Beckstrom scored a goal in each half to lead the Red Storm to the win. She opened the scoring just before halftime when she shot a ball 35 yards out over the outstretched hand of HPU keeper Carianne Makino (Honolulu, HI). Beckstrom gave Dixie a two-goal lead in the 83rd minute after she scored off a cross by Lauren Minnick.
HPU lost despite outshooting Dixie 13-12. Makino recorded six saves on the evening with DSC keeper April Beck tallying four saves.
HPU now travels to Phoenix as they take on Grand Canyon University in a pair of PacWest contests. The Sea Warriors and 'Lopes kickoff Monday, October 4, at 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
