Lady Sea Warriors Rally To Top UH-Hilo

Hilo, HI (10/30/10) – The HPU women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal second-half deficit to defeat UH-Hilo. HPU netted three goals in the final 20 minutes of the match to improve to 7-8 overall and 7-5 in the PacWest. The Vulcans drop to 6-9-1 overall and 5-7 in conference.

Lindsey Poulsen put UH-Hilo ahead with her score in the ninth minute as HPU trailed by a goal at halftime. The Vulcans increased their lead in the 67th minute when Dayneen Moriwaki chipped a ball over the head of HPU keeper Carianne Makino.

Amber Fuller got HPU on the scoreboard with her goal in the 70th minute. Yasmina Taketa and Meghan Fuller then scored just seconds apart in the final 10 minutes to give HPU its first lead and the win.

Makino posted four saves and UHH keeper Alysia Ann Barone recorded eight saves. The match was played on the campus of UH-Hilo in sloppy conditions.

HPU next takes on BYU-Hawaii this Thursday, November 2. Start time in Laie, HI is set for 3:00 p.m.
