Seattle, WA (10/8/10) – At Interbay Stadium, the HPU men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 double overtime defeat to Seattle Pacific University. The Falcons converted on a penalty kick with 10 seconds left to earn the win. HPU falls to 7-3 while SPU improves to 4-5-2.
With 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, HPU was whistled for a foul when Anthony Mohammed was taken down on the right side of the penalty area. Andy Wolverton converted on the ensuing penalty kick to give SPU the win.
The Sea Warriors had their own opportunity to win the game on a penalty kick with 3:08 left in the second overtime, but Nathan Scott (Phoenix, AZ) pushed his shot low just wide of the left post.
Kay Flache (Schweinfurt, Germany) recorded nine saves in net for HPU, keeping his team in the match despite a 29-8 shot disparity in favor of the Falcons. Zach Johnson posted two saves for Seattle Pacific.
HPU next travels to Bellingham, Washington for the final match of its six-game road trip. The Sea Warriors take on Western Washington University this Sunday, October 10, at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
