HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer (5–4–2, 2–3–0 PacWest) dropped a 3–0 decision on the road Thursday afternoon to conference rival Hawai'i Hilo (5–4–2, 3–2–1 PacWest) at Vulcan Soccer Field.
After a tightly contested first half, the match turned in the second period as the Vulcans capitalized on a penalty kick in the 64th minute to break the deadlock. Hawai'i Hilo's Kanata Taira followed with two quick goals within a five-minute span to secure the result.
Despite the scoreline, goalkeeper Oliver Holt delivered a strong performance between the posts, recording nine saves to keep the Sharks within reach through much of the match. The Sharks were limited to three total shots, unable to find the finishing touch in the attacking third.
HPU will look to regroup and bounce back when they return home to continue PacWest play next week.
