Laie, HI (11/2/10) – On the campus of BYU-Hawaii, the HPU women's soccer team upset the Lady Seasiders, 2-1. HPU evens its record at 8-8 overall, and improves to 8-5 in the PacWest. BYUH, who already clinched the conference title, suffers its first loss of the season to fall to 13-1-2 overall and 11-1-2 in the PacWest.
BYUH struck first as Natalie Cude scored in the 11th minute, but HPU evened the match just minutes later. Meghan Fuller capitalized on a loose ball in front of the Seasider goal to tie the match at 1-1.
HPU was outshot 22-11 on the afternoon, but stole the win in the 86th minute when Amber Fuller scored the gamewinner. Fuller also gained possession of a loose ball in the BYUH penalty area and scored past Seasider keeper Megan McCain.
McCain and HPU goalkeeper Carianne Makino each recorded six saves.
With the win, HPU runs its win streak to four games and leapfrogs Grand Canyon for second place in the conference.
HPU plays its season finale on Saturday, November 6, against UH-Hilo. Start time at Atherton Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
