Honolulu, HI (12/11/10) – At the Stan Sheriff Center in front of a crowd of over 5500, the HPU men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Hawai'i, 72-50. HPU falls to 3-6 while the Rainbow Warriors improve to 6-2.
Kyle Allen and Jason Jackson had 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead HPU who played UH close for most of the first half. Allen's basket with 1:33 remaining in the period cut the lead to 28-26, but a quick 9-0 run to close the half gave UH a 37-26 lead at the break.
Zane Johnson was the high scorer for Hawai'i with 18 points. Johnson made his living from beyond the arc, going 6-9 from three-point range.
Hawai'i scored the game's first eight points, but HPU responded to take a brief 15-14 lead. UH retook the lead but a Kameron Steinhoff (3 pts, 3 reb) three-pointer cut the lead to 24-22.
LaBrent Chappell posted eight points, and Allen and Jackson each added six rebounds to lead HPU.
HPU returns to the court this Wednesday, December 15, against Texas A & M International University. Tip off at the Neal Blaisdell Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
