Women's Volleyball Falls To Seattle Pacific

Honolulu (9/11/10) – At Saint Andrew's Priory, the HPU women's volleyball team was swept by Seattle Pacific University, 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-18). The Lady Sea Warriors (6-1) drop their first loss of the season while SPU improves to 8-0.

Kelly Balanay paced HPU in the losing effort, posting a team-high 11 kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Courtney Curran and Sanoe Recca each recorded eight kills with Kyra Pelayo adding a team-high 15 digs.

Sarah Risser led the Lady Falcons with 13 kills and 12 digs.

HPU fell in games one and two by the slimmest of margins. The Sea Warriors built a 15-11 lead in game one after kills by Curran and Balanay. SPU rallied and managed to tie the game at 20-20, but Balanay responded with a pair of kills to give HPU a 22-21 lead. SPU regained control and paced to the game one win.

Game two saw another tight contest, as HPU rallied from a 20-13 deficit to nearly pull off the win. A pair of kills by Brittany Wood (2 K) helped the Sea Warriors run off eight straight points to tie the game at 20-20. SPU would stem the tide and hold off the HPU rally to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

HPU will have a week off before they start conference play. The Sea Warriors take on Chaminade this Saturday, September 18, at McCabe Gymnasium on the Chaminade campus. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
