Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Chaminade

Honolulu (9/18/10) – At McCabe Gymnasium, the HPU women's volleyball team swept Chaminade University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15). The match was the conference opener for both teams, as HPU improves to 7-1 overall and Chaminade falls to 3-5.

Natasha Bell (Sunnyvale, CA) led HPU with 13 kills and 14 digs, with Kelly Balanay (San Diego, CA) recording 11 kills and Kyra Pelayo (San Jose, CA) adding 20 digs.

Crystal Powell led the Swords with six kills and 10 digs.

In game one, the Sea Warriors held a 17-12 lead before Chaminade came back to cut the deficit to 18-17. With HPU leading 23-22, Balanay and Chelsey Buyuan (Hilo, HI) (8 K) recorded kills to seal the game one win.

HPU trailed late in game two but dominated down the stretch to earn the win. Buyuan andSanoe Recca (Waimanalo, HI) recorded the final two kills to give HPU the win.

Recca posted four kills and Balanay added a match-high five blocks.

HPU next takes on its Alumnae this Wednesday, September 22, at Saint Andrew's Priory with the start time set for 7:15 pm. The Sea Warriors return to conference play next Saturday, September 25, as they travel to Hilo to take on UH-Hilo. First serve for that match is set for 7:00 p.m.
