San Francisco, CA (January 27, 2011) – In a comeback for the ages, Hawaii Pacific beat Academy of Art 68-64. Down 21-4 10 minutes into the game, HPU went on an 11-0 run featuring five points from Royal Edwards and four from Jason Jackson. HPU would complete the rally to move to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the PacWest.
Edwards grabbed three big rebounds late, and LaBrent Chappell had a three-point play to put the blue and green up 62-61 with 2:41 left. Later, a key Kameron Steinhoff layup put HPU up 66-61. The defense then sealed the game. The foul shooting late was perfect, as the Sea Warriors were 5-5 over the final 2:41.
Chappell was 8-9 from the line as part of his 10 point effort. Jackson finished with 15 points and eight rebounds on 6-10 shooting. Kyle Allen scored 13 points, including 7-8 from the line. Edwards added 11 points.
William Overton Jr. had a game-high 26 points for AAU, who falls to 5-13, 2-6.
HPU squares off against Dominican University this Saturday, January 29th in San Rafael, CA. Start time is slated for 7:30pm PST.
