Honolulu, HI (October 8, 2010) – It was a disappointing day for Hawai'i Pacific sports, the volleyball team was swept, the men's soccer team lost 5-1, the women's soccer team played to a tie, and
Carrie Shuler and Thalia Wilczynski lost on the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
The volleyball team was overpowered in Laie by the host BYU-H Seasiders, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16). HPU was outdone in nearly every statistical category and never posed a real threat.
Sanoe Recca led HPU with 7 kills, Pihana Kea had 24 assists and
Kyra Pelayo had 20 digs. They volleyball team will retake the floor on Friday as they welcome UH-Hilo to St. Andrew's Priory at 7 P.M.
The men's soccer lost to third-ranked Simon Frasier University 5-1. HPU was competitive in the first half, trailing 2-1 at the break.
Heimana Chene scored on a cross from
Chance Bukoski. After SFU make it 3-1, an HPU goal was called off due to HPU being offside. After that SFU scored twice more to seal the match.
On the road in Hilo, the HPU women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 double-overtime draw.
Yasmina Taketa, off a pass from
Sanoe Souza, put HPU ahead 1-0 in the first half. After the game was tied in the 61st minute, HPU responded to retake the lead two minutes later. Souza fed
Shelby Moriguchi on a corner kick. The game was retied in the 65th minute and both teams would then play scoreless overtimes. Both soccer teams play at Chaminade on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. for the women and 12:30 P.M. for the men.
HPU was only involved in one match on the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. In the semifinals of the Green Flight doubles bracket, UH's Aglae Van den Bergh and Martina Kostolova beat HPU's
Carrie Shuler and Thalia Wilczynski, 8-3. HPU will next participate in the Honolulu Masters Open from October 18th to 22nd.
