Honolulu, HI (October 31, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team turned St. Andrew's Priory into a house of horrors for Dominican University on Halloween night. The Sea Warriors won in straight sets: 25-18, 25-14, 25-16.
Reining PacWest Player of the Week,
Sanoe Recca, led HPU with seven kills, she also had nine digs. Senior
Natasha Bell had five kills in the three set affair. Pihana Kea had 19 assists while
Hannah Schuett had 10.
Kyra Pelayo again led all competitors with 24 digs.
The match was never in doubt, despite Dominican taking early leads in two sets. HPU opened big leads midway through the first two sets and took a big early lead in the third. HPU's defense was impressive, holding Dominican to a .017 hitting percentage for the match. HPU added 10 team blocks.
Coach
Daryl Kapis used all 16 of his healthy players to post a true team win. The Sea Warriors, who are currently ranked 6th in the region, strengthened their bid to reach the postseason for the first time since 2005.
HPU is now 14-8 overall and 9-4 in the PacWest. Dominican falls to 1-19, 1-10.
HPU will next host Academy of Art on Thursday at St. Andrew's Priory at 7 PM.
