Honolulu, HI (November 3, 2010) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team dropped a five set match against Academy of Art tonight at St. Andrew's Priory (25-20, 17-25, 26-28, 25-10, 12-15). The loss seriously damages HPU's quest for a postseason berth.
HPU came out strong and won the first set. Art U countered by winning the next two sets. With its back against the wall, HPU responded in resounding fashion by dominating the fourth set 25-15. The momentum would not carry over. In the fifth set, Art U got in front early and wouldn't squander its lead.
Sanoe Recca had 16 kills and 12 digs. The middle blockers did well, with
Courtney Curran getting 14 kills and
Haley Doerfler registering 12. Doerfler hit a robust .400 for the match.
Kyra Pelayo had 27 digs, many of them highlight reel worthy.
Natasha Bell had 15 digs to go with nine kills. Pihana Kea set the entire match, racking up 49 assists, she also managed 15 digs.
HPU falls to 14-9 overall and 9-5 in the PacWest. Art U improves to 9-15 and 5-8.
HPU and Academy of Art will play again on Sunday at St. Andrew's Priory at 5 PM.
