Box Score Honolulu, HI (December 19, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific defense was again outstanding in a 57-45 non-conference win over Bethany College. HPU has now allowed 89 points in its last two games combined.
HPU came out of the gate slow, finding themselves down 10-2 a little over three minutes into the game. However, the Sea Warriors would rip off an 18-0 run to lead 20-10 capped by a layup by Marco Cukic. HPU would keep BC at arm's length for the rest of the half, going to the break with a 27-16 lead. BC would battle back in the second half, and draw to within two at 39-37 with 9:42 to play. Another HPU run, this one 10-0, ended any hopes of a comeback for the Swedes.
Fran Urli led the offense with 15 points, including going a perfect 7-7 from the foul stripe.
Kyle Allen had a solid all-around game with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Glenn Miller recorded seven points to go with seven rebounds. Ronnie Hodge had nine points off the bench.
Bethany College was harassed by HPU defenders all night, leading to a 17-57 (30%) shooting night. HPU shot the ball a bit better going 20-52 (39%). HPU had five less turnovers and held a big advantage at the foul line, shooting 14-17 while BC went 8-16.
The Sea Warriors have evened their record at 4-4 as Bethany College falls to 3-8. The Swedes were led by Chris Dean who had 12 points and 16 rebounds.
HPU has one remaining non-conference matchup with Northwest Indian College on December 30th. The game is scheduled at Moanalua High School at 2 PM.
