Honolulu, HI (September 11, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team lost their first match of the season to Division I University of Hawai'i, 6-2. Izzy Romero and Kaua Wall both scored for HPU in the match played at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Former Sea Warrior A mber Fuller scored against her old teammates to give UH a 1-0 lead, after a converted penalty kick, HPU struck back. Almost 38 minutes into the match, Wall followed a shot by
Meghan Fuller that hit the crossbar and she put it back for the goal. HPU trailed 2-1 at the half.
HPU wouldn't score again until the 85:26 mark when
Liana Gualdarama put a free kick into the box and Izzy Romero scored in the corner of the net.
Carianne Makino had six save in goal in the loss, HPU falls to 2-1.
Former HPU coach Michele Nagamine, now the coach at UH, got her first win. UH is now 1-6.
HPU now heads to California to start the PacWest season. Up first is Notre Dame de Namur on September 16th at 2 P.M. PST in Belmont, CA.
