Honolulu, HI (September 20, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team have completed their three-match California road trip 3-0. Tuesday it was HPU 3-2 over Academy of Art.
The Sea Warriors needed a come from behind victory on to knock off Academy of Art in San Francisco. HPU was down 1-0 by the 18:47 mark, until five minutes later when
Sanoe Souza hit a shot from about 25 yards away, deflecting off the goalie, and into the net. Shortly before half, HPU took the lead on
Andrea Aguirre's forth goal of the season.
Yasmina Taketa advanced the ball on a breakaway before finding Aguirre on the cross at the 41:52 mark.
At the 56:37 point, AAU scored off a corner kick to tie the match at two. Undeterred, HPU battled back and got a game winner from Taketa. With just seven minutes left in regulation, Taketa beat her defender one-on-one and scored on a shot to the left of the goal keeper.
Carianne Makino had two saves in the win; HPU is now 5-1 and 3-0 in the PacWest. AAU drops to 1-5, 0-2.
The Sea Warriors will be in action on Saturday against UH-Hilo at Atherton Field. The match will start at 12:30 PM.
