Volleyball Defeats Argonauts

Honolulu, HI (September 23, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team made short work of Notre Dame de Namur, 3-0, on Friday night in a PacWest game. HPU avenged a loss last season to NDNU with a straight set victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-22).

The scores don't really indicate how much HPU was in control. Coach Daryl Kapis played his entire bench, with 13 players playing in at least two sets. HPU jumped on top early with an 8-3 lead in the first set. The lead grew to 10 at 18-8, and then to 21-10 before winning 25-17. NDNU fought back in the second set, leading 7-6 early. The set would remain close and was tied at 13, but then HPU ripped off a 10-2 run capped by an Allison Bonk kill. HPU won 25-19. In the third set it was all Sea Warriors, HPU went in front 11-2 and never looked back. Although, HPU had trouble closing the door, once up 22-13, HPU had to hang on for the 25-23 win.

The win moves HPU to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Natasha Bell led the team with seven kills. Haley Doerfler, Brittney Wood and Bonk all had six kills each. Courtney Curren had five kills and hit .556 to lead the team. Hannah Schuett had 23 assists while Pihana Kea had 15. Kyra Pelayo had a game-high 22 digs.

HPU next hosts Chaminade on October 1st at St. Andrew's Priory at 7:00 PM
