Honolulu, HI (September 24, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team suffered its first blemish to its PacWest record with a 1-1 tie to UH-Hilo. HPU had opportunities, including two missed penalty kicks and another shot going off the post.
HPU struck first at the 25:30 mark when
Sanoe Souza sent a corner kick at the UHH goal, the ball deflected off of a Vulcan defender and went in.
Meghan Fuller was in the area to force the mistake. Only seconds later, UHH's Kristine Pasek and
Carianne Makino collided in the goalie box and Pasek was awarded a penalty kick. Pasek took advantage and scored off the finger tips of Makino.
Makino had four saves in the tie. HPU outshot Hilo 15-12.
HPU is now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the PacWest. UH-Hilo improves to 2-3-1 and 0-2-1.
HPU will next play Grand Canyon University on Thursday at Atherton Field at 12:30 PM.
