Honolulu, HI (September 2, 2011) – On the campus of St. Andrew's Priory, HPU lost its second match in as many nights, both to 2010 NCAA playoff teams. Tonight, HPU fell to Sonoma State 3-1 (20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25).
The match was evenly played throughout, with neither team being able to sustain a run. Sonoma State excelled in late game situations and was able to pull out the close victories.
HPU had three players in double-figure kills, led by
Sanoe Recca's 16.
Natasha Bell had 11 and Britney Wood had 10. HPU ran a 6-2 offense, resulting in 25 assists for Pihana Kea and 15 for
Hannah Schuett.
Kyra Pelayo was again solid at libero, amassing 32 digs. Bell had a double-double with 16 digs to go with her kills. Bell was also outstanding in the service game, recording six aces.
HPU drops to 1-3 on the season as the Seawolves even their record at 1-1. Allyson Sather led the charge for SSU with 16 kills.
HPU plays a double header tomorrow; Seattle Pacific is up first at 11 a.m., then HPU faces Northwest Nazarene at 7 p.m. Both matches are at St. Andrew's Priory and are part of the Hilton Waikiki Beach Invitational.
