Honolulu, HI (September 3, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team snapped a three match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene (25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 25-17).
Sanoe Recca led three Sea Warriors in double figure kills with 16.
A
Haley Doerfler kill tied the first set at 14, and then a 5-1 HPU mini-run gave the Sea Warriors separation. NNU didn't go away, drawing to within one at 21-20, but four consecutive kills, three of them by
Brittney Wood, won the set. The second set was hotly contested with 16 ties, including at 25-25. HPU's two hitting errors gave the set to the Crusaders. In the third set, HPU took a four point lead on a
Courtney Curran kill, 11-7, and then essentially traded points with NNU to get the win. The fourth set was all Sea Warriors as they built leads of 10-5 and then 17-9 enabling HPU to coast.
Recca was efficient, hitting .256 for the match. Wood was even better, hitting .385 while registering 14 kills. Doerfler also had 11 kills. Recca had 12 digs for another double-double, but
Kyra Pelayo led the team with 18. Pihana Kea exclusively handled the setting duties, accumulating 50 assists. Wood and
Courtney Curran each had four blocks to lead HPU.
Northwest Nazarene evens it record at 2-2; it was led by Reisa Fessler who had 12 kills. HPU is now 2-4.
HPU now takes to the road and will participate in the Phoenix Invitational. HPU will play in four matches in Phoenix, starting on September 9th against Colorado Christian at 9:00 A.M. MST. HPU will return home on September 14th to play BYU-H.
