Women’s Soccer Wins Mainland Finale

St. George, UT (October 11, 2012) - KaUa Wall scored an early goal and Kiana Kaiwi made eight saves as the Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team (4-7-1, 3-4-1) held on to defeat Dixie State (6-5-2, 6-3) by the score of 1-0.

Wall scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute after receiving a pass from Meghan Fuller, depositing the breakaway in to the back of the net. The Sea Warriors would close out the first half with the one goal lead as well as an 8-4 advantage in shots.

In the second period, the Sea Warriors battled the elements as well as a determined Red Storm attack. In the 53rd minute the match was delayed for nearly half an hour as lightning moved in to the area. It would be Kaiwi who kept the Sea Warriors in it coming out of the delay, making four saves in a span of 12 minutes. Despite the difficult weather and a tough Dixie attack HPU took the 1-0 victory.

After the match a proud head coach Gina Brewer commented on her team's victory, “I am so proud of our team today. They came out strong from the start and never let up even through the pouring rain and lightning delay.” Reflecting on the road trip and looking forward Brewer added, “This was a great way for us to end a long, tough road trip. The girls deserved this win today. We will look to keep this momentum going for the last half of our conference games when we return home.”

With the mainland portion of the PacWest schedule complete, the Sea Warriors return to Oahu to face Chaminade at St. Lewis Field on October 17th; game time is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
