San Diego, CA (October 6, 2012) - The Hawai'i Pacific (3-6-1, 2-3-1) women's soccer team battled to 0-0 tie against one of the PacWest's most disciplined defenses, Point Loma Nazarene (7-2-1, 5-1-1).
Kiana Kaiwi made 12 saves for the Sea Warriors, earning her fourth shutout of the season.
Point Loma controlled the action through much of the match outshooting the Sea Warriors 9-3 in the first half, 8-3 in the second and 6-4 in the overtime periods. HPU, who lost in the closing seconds two nights ago in Azusa, very nearly suffered a similar fate against Point Loma when Kaiwi had to make a stop on a last second Sea Lion shot at the end of regulation.
Despite being outshot 23-10 in the match, the Sea Warriors played lockdown defense against the Point Loma attack, salvaging a draw.
Megan Fuller and
Sanoe Souza led the Sea Warriors in shots with two, while four different Sea Warriors each recorded one shot on goal. Kaiwi's 12 saves in the match was a season high for her.
With the California leg of the road trip complete, HPU heads to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon University on October 9th; game time is 8 PM.
