Kaneohe, HI (November 1, 2012) -
Kelby Boswell made two saves and
Megan Fuller recorded four shots but the Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team (6-8-3, 5-5-3) fell to visiting Academy of Art (6-11, 4-9) in a defensive struggle by the score of 1-0.
The story of the match can be described as suffocating defense by both sides. The Sea Warriors managed to outshoot the Urban Knights 14-6, however many of the shots were from distance allowing Art keeper Rachael Rempe to make the saves. The Sea Warriors defense however held the Urban Knights to two shots in the first half and only four in the second.
The Urban Knights would break through in the 52nd minute when Hannah Emmett received a pass out of a scramble and beat Boswell to the top right corner of the net for the goal. The Sea Warriors nearly answered in the 57th minute when
Liana Gualdarama struck the post off a free kick. HPU nearly tied it up again in the 87th minute but Rempe stopped a Fuller shot from point blank preserving Academy of Art's one goal lead. Despite placing 11 of 14 shots on target, the Sea Warriors could not solve Rempe who earned the shutout for the Urban Knights, stopping all 11 shots on goal.
The Sea Warriors return to the pitch for Senior Day on November 3rd against Holy Names University at Atherton Field; game time is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
