Men’s Basketball Wins Third Consecutive

San Francisco, CA (February 21, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team (10-12, 5-9) has not trailed in the last 49 minutes of games action. After controlling the final nine minutes in the last game, HPU took an early lead and never looked back in an 80-68 win over Academy of Art (3-22, 1-14) in San Francisco.

The Sea Warriors took early control; at the 16:41 mark of the first half Glenn Miller hit a jumper to put HPU up 11-2. Roughly six minutes later, Jelany White hit a three-pointer to put up HPU by 11, the largest lead of the first half. Art U would make a run; a 10-2 spurt would trim HPU's lead to three with 6:17 left. With inside a minute to play, LaBrent Chappell made a three to give HPU a 38-30 lead at the half.

HPU held a double digit lead for parts of the second half, but Art U made a late push. With 2:37 left, HPU led by only four. Glenn Miller would answer with a basket, plus the foul shot.  HPU would go 8-8 from the foul line from that point to ice the victory.

Fran Uril led all scorers with 22 points, he also added a team-high 11 rebounds. Chappell scored 14 points in 36 minutes of action. Miller had 13 points as White had 11, both men had three assists.  

HPU limited Art U to 33% (20-60) shooting for the game while shooting 46% (26-56) itself. Both teams made five three pointers, but HPU did it in seven less attempts (5-11).

HPU continues its Bay Area road trip on Thursday against Dominican in San Rafael at 7:30 PM PST.
