Huskey Sets School Record in Final Game

Laie, HI (March 3, 2012) – Taiyande Huskey saved her best performance for last. The senior, playing her final game, set a new school record with 15 assists in a single game. Huskey's passing barrage led to Hawai'i Pacific's women's basketball team winning 78-71 against BYU-Hawaii.

The Sea Warriors led for 37 and a half minutes of this contest, HPU took an 8-6 lead early and did not trail again. HPU built a 13 point lead when Paris Gravely scored with 5:56 to play, but BYUH trimmed the lead to five two and a half minutes later. HPU responded and increased the margin to 12 points at the half. HPU's lead grew to 17 points at 61-44 with 15:30 to play, but the Seasiders would whittle the lead down to five in the game's last minute. A pair of free throw hits by Melody Ladrido iced the game for HPU.

Senior Mana Hopkins had 22 points in her final game in the blue and green to go with seven rebounds. Huskey scored 14 points and had five rebounds and steals. Senior Gravely scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in her finale. Ladrido poured in 17 points off the bench.

HPU closed the season with an 18-10 overall record and a 12-6 mark in the PacWest. It is the third consecutive season that HPU has won 18 games.

BYU-H ends at 6-20 and 5-13, but got a new school record from Shayla Washington who scored 44 points.
