Women’s Soccer Sunk in Second Half

Kaneohe, HI (September 27, 2012)- The Hawai'i Pacific (3-5, 2-2) women's soccer team fell to .500 in PacWest play, losing to Fresno Pacific University (2-3-3, 2-1-2) by the score of 3-1. Andrea Aguirre paced the Sea Warriors with five shots and Erika Ellis came off the bench to score the first goal of her college career in the loss.

HPU dominated play in the first half, outshooting Fresno Pacific 10-1, but had difficulty beating Sunbird keeper Sarah King, who made six saves in the half. Ellis would find the back of the net with only 3:12 remaining in the period, tipping in an indirect kick from Liana Gualdarama. HPU would take the 1-0 lead in to the half.

Fresno Pacific would tie it up in the 67th minute when Sea Warrior keeper Kiana Kaiwi misplayed a free kick that bounced over her head and in to the net, knotting up the score at one. The momentum would fully swing in FPU's favor in the 72nd minute when Sunbird defenseman Caressa Archie headed in a corner kick from Jessica Castillo giving the visitors a 2-1 lead. FPU would add an insurance goal in the 88th minute pushing the final score to 3-1.

Hawaii Pacific continues PacWest play when it heads on a five game road swing that begins with Azusa Pacific University on October 4th; game time is schedule for 7:30PM.
