Late Goal Lifts Sea Warriors Past Argonauts

Box Score KANEOHE, HI (October 12, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (4-6, 2-3) received a late goal from Ashlyn Ubongen, propelling it to a 1-0 victory over Notre Dame de Namur (4-6-1, 2-2-1) on Saturday.

Late in the game it appeared that the two teams were on their way to overtime until HPU found some magic.

After several near misses and hit crossbars, the Columbia Blue and Kelly Green struck pay dirt in the 89th minute when Ubongen deposited a self-volley goal into the back of the net.

HPU's smothering defense would hold the Argonauts at bay running the next two minutes off the clock for the 1-0 victory.

HPU controlled play throughout, holding a 19-11 shot advantage for the match. Sea Warrior keeper Anu Kahele-Manners made her first save just 90 seconds in to play and was only tested once for the remainder of the game.

Beyond the 19-11 shot advantage, the Sea Warriors also held a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.

While not seeing much action, Kahele-Manners was solid in the shots she faced, picking up her second straight shutout victory.

The six-game home stand continues on Monday, October 14th when the Sea Warriors entertain Fresno Pacific at Atherton Field. Kick off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
