Box Score KANEOHE, HI (October 14, 2013)—A lack of offense proved to be the downfall for the Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (4-7, 2-4) who fell 1-0 to Fresno Pacific (5-4-1, 3-2-1) at Atherton Field.
Despite being shut out, the Sea Warriors had numerous scoring chances, out-shooting the Sunbirds 19-7.Â
HPU freshman
Vanna Hatchie gave the Sunbirds defense fits early on, routinely beating her defender on the wing, but the Sea Warriors struggled to break through.
Hawai`i Pacific's best chance came in the 33
rd minute when
Erika Ellis' shot off a corner kick was blocked and
Taylor Rae Silva's rebound attempt went just wide. HPU came close again less than a minute later when a
Meghan Cooley shot glanced off the post.
FPU broke the scoreless tie in the 42
nd minute with chip shot over the goalkeeper's head on a breakaway.
The Sea Warriors kept the pressure on in the second half, holding a 10-4 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes.
Ellis put together another nice run late in the game, but the Sunbirds' keeper was up to the challenge making the stop to deny HP the game-tying tally.
Goalkeeper
Anu Kahele-Manners, who was named Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week earlier in the day, made three saves in goal for the Sea Warriors.
Offensively, senior
Andrea Aguirre led the way for HPU with a game-high four shots.
Freshman
Sky Nanoo added two shots, both on goal.
The Sea Warriors return to action on October 14
th when they host Dominican University of California at Atherton Field. Kick off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
