Women's Soccer Ties Regionally Ranked Foe

Box Score KANEOHE, HI (October 23, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team  (5-7-1, 3-4-1) stood toe-to-toe with the one of the regions top-ranked teams, earning a 0-0 tie against UH Hilo (8-3-2, 5-3-1) in double overtime.

As they would do in three of the four stanzas, the Sea Warriors held the shot advantage in the first half, pulling the trigger seven times compared to the Vulcans five. Breanna Gaddis nearly gave HPU the lead in the 29th minute sending a header off a corner kick just over the crossbar.

Hawai`i Pacific's best chance of the game came early in the second half when Vanna Hatchie drilled a shot past the Vulcan keeper, but it glanced off the post and out of the goal.

Senior Andrea Aguirre had an opportunity to break the tie in the 82nd minute on a free kick, but sent the shot just wide.

HPU pushed the action in the overtime periods, forcing the Vulcan goalkeeper to make a pair of saves, but neither side was able to break through and the match ended in a scoreless tie.

Sea Warrior goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners was solid in net, stopping all six shots she faced.

Aguirre led the way offensively for HPU putting two of her five shots on goal.

For the first time in its history the Vulcans came in to the match ranked in the NCAA West Region, debuting with a fifth-place ranking
