Women's Soccer Earns Tie Against Red Hawks

Box Score KANEOHE, HI (October 28, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team  (5-7-2, 3-4-2) earned a 1-1 draw against Holy Names (4-9-1, 0-7-1) at Atherton Field on Monday.
 
The Sea Warriors came out firing with Vanna Hatchie and Andrea Aguirre testing the Red Hawk's goalkeeper twice in the first 10 minutes of the match.
 
Holy Names would put a shot off the crossbar in the 33rd minute and finally broke through in the 39th minute. Despite holding a 7-4 shot advantage, HPU trailed 1-0 going into the break.
 
The Sea Warriors eventually put one on the board in the 83rd minute when Ashlyn Ubongen nailed a penalty kick after the Red Hawks were called for a handball in the box.
 
Both teams had their chances in overtime.
 
In the first overtime, HPU midfielder Breanna Gaddis had two shots on goal during a scramble in front of the net after a corner kick. The second shot made it past the Red Hawk goalkeeper, but a HNU defender was there to knock it away.
 
The Red Hawks had a opportunity of their own in the second OT on a break away, but Sea Warriors goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners made the stop to preserve the tie.
 
HPU controlled much of the action throughout the game outshooting the Red Hawks 18-10, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Kahele-Manners finished the match with four saves.
 
Ubongen's goal is her third on the season giving her the team lead in that category.
 
The Sea Warriors return to action on Saturday, November 2nd when they face Academy of Art on Senior Day at Atherton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
