Women's Soccer Closes Road Trip With a W

Box Score SAN DIEGO, CA (October 5, 2013)— The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (3-6, 1-3) won the final game its four-game mainland road trip on Saturday defeating Point Loma (5-4-1, 4-1-1) 1-0. Anu Kahele-Manners made eight saves in goal for HPU to earn the shutout.
 
Despite a combined seven shots on goal in the first half, neither side was able to find the back of the net. Kahele-Manners was solid in goal for HPU in the first half stopping all five shots she faced.
 
Hawai`i Pacific nearly took the lead in the 44th minute when midfielder Meghan Cooley's shot glanced off the crossbar, but the game would go to the break with the score tied 0-0.
 
The game would remain tied deep into the second period as both keepers made multiple saves. Hawai`i Pacific finally broke through in the 82nd minute when Andrea Aguirre sent an arching shot from 30 yards out over the head of the Sea Lion keeper.
 
Point Loma managed two shots in the waning minutes, but Kahele-Manners and the Sea Warrior defense held on for the 1-0 victory.
 
With the four-game road trip complete the Sea Warriors now head back to Oahu for a six-game home stand beginning with Notre Dame de Namur on October 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Atherton Field.
