Men's Soccer Tripped Up by Urban Knights

Box Score KANEOHE, HI (November 2, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Soccer Team (8-5-2, 6-3-1) dropped its final home match of the season on Saturday, falling to Academy of Art (9-5-3, 6-3-2) 2-1 in overtime.

The Sea Warriors controlled much of the possession in the first half, but it was the Urban Knights who struck first on a well-placed shot from nearly 25 yards out in the 10th minute.

HPU freshman Erik Kemsies answered in the 16th minute when he redirected a cross from Felipe Silva to tie the game at one goal apiece.

The Sea Warriors held a 6-4 shot advantage in the first period, but the game would go to the break tied at one.

Despite a scoreless second half, both sides had their chances to score.

HPU appeared to take the lead in the 59th minute when freshman Kona Gaison nailed a cross into the back of the net, but the offside flag had been raised.

Sea Warrior's goalkeeper Mael Lefebvre kept his team in the match late, turning back a trio of Urban Knight scoring chances in the waning minutes of regulation.

In overtime, the Sea Warriors nearly ended it on a Brais Garcia opportunity that was stopped by the AAU keeper.  The Urban Knights would hit the golden goal just seconds later, on a shot from the top of the 18 yard box that deflected off the post and went in for the 2-1 win.

HPU Head Coach Chris Fisher commented on his team's final home match, "It was an exciting end to a game that could have gone either way. Unfortunately, it did not go ours. I wish we could have pulled this one out for our seniors."

HPU said aloha to six seniors after the match on Saturday. Jimmy Baggett, Kamali Webson, Marius Stensby, Alejandro Porras, Silva and Lefebvre were all honored after the game.

The Sea Warriors next face BYU-Hawaii in Laie on November 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
