First Half Scoring Barage Helps Women's Soccer Past Knights

Box Score KANEOHE, HI (November 2, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (6-7-2, 4-4-2) unleashed it most potent scoring barrage of the season on Saturday, defeating Academy of Art (3-13-1, 2-8-1) 4-2 on senior day at Atherton Field.

The Sea Warriors kicked off the scoring in the 24th minute when Lexi Cameau fought off a defender and sent a right-footed shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 lead.

Erika Ellis put HPU up two goals in the 39th minute, chipping a through ball from Andrea Aguirre over the AAU goalkeeper's head.

The Urban Knights would quickly answer with a tally of their own in the 40th minute to cut the score to 2-1, but Ellis again lit up the scoreboard in the 42nd minute after finishing a brilliant long feed from Sea Warrior defender Sierra Kadooka. Ellis' second goal of the match gave HPU a 3-1 lead at the break.

The Urban Knights again pulled to within a goal in the 71st minute on a shot from just inside the box cutting the HPU lead to 3-2.

Any doubt of the outcome was relieved however, when junior Ashlyn Ubongen iced the game for the Sea Warriors in the 87th minute when she capitalized on the AAU goalkeeper losing control of a cross. The goal would prove to be the last as HPU earned the 4-2 victory.

The Sea Warriors dominated the box score as well as the scoreboard holding a 21-5 advantage in shots including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Ellis, a sophomore, scored two goals in a match for the first time in her career.

Sea Warrior goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners made a pair of saves on the day.

After the match Hawai`i Pacific said aloha to three seniors who played all four seasons at HPU. Aguirre, Ashley Deguchi and Nicole Craig were each honored following the match.

With the home portion of the schedule complete the Sea Warriors will play their final two games on the road, albeit on Oahu. They next face BYU-Hawaii in Laie on November 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
