HONOLULU, HI (November 20, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Volleyball Team will play its last match of the season Thursday night in a big intra-island rematch against #4 BYU-Hawaii on the North Shore. The Sea Warriors are the only team to have beaten the Seasiders in 2013.
HPU is looking for a repeat performance after dropping the Seasiders in five sets on September 26th in front of a packed house at St. Andrews Priory.
Junior middle blocker
Haley Doerfler, who had a season-high 15 kills in the first match, commented on the value of playing such big game to end the season.
"It gives us an opportunity to come together as a team and get a head start on next season because so many players are returning. It gives us a chance to improve as individual players and as a team."
The Seasiders are currently ranked second in the NCAA West Region and have locked up the Pacific West Conference Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. While some teams may shy away from the stiff competition, the Sea Warriors are excited for the opportunity.
"It gives us motivation because it shows we have the ability to compete on a national level, not just locally" said Doerfler.
In September the Sea Warriors took the first set before dropping sets two and three. HPU then rallied to win sets four and five to earn the victory over the fourth ranked Seasiders.
Head Coach
Daryl Kapis discussed the match.
"We have made some significant changes in our lineup over the last three weeks and I feel like we are playing at a really high clip going into this match."
First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Cannon Activities Center.Â
