ST.GEORGE, UT (February 25, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Basketball Team (9-15, 6-11) got 21 points from
Malte Ziegenhagen, and three other Sea Warriors reached double figures, but HPU fell to PacWest frontrunner Dixie State College (19-6, 14-3) by the score of 83-66 in front of 2,730 fans in Utah.
The first half was hotly contested with HPU holding an early 13-11 lead with 10:46 to go. The Red Storm took the lead back at the 9:12 mark, but HPU stayed close. A three-pointer from
Max Livingston with 6:45 to play make it a two-point game at 21-19.
DSC then went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes leaving HPU in a 16 point hole. Another three from Livingston broke the drought and sparked an 8-1 run to close the half. The teams headed to the locker room with a 36-27 score.
Kawika Lyons knocked down a three-pointer to open the second half to bring HPU to within six. However, just 36 seconds later the DSC lead was back to double-digits.
It was Lyons again with a three-pointer that got HPU to with six at the 13:19 mark, but the Red Strom wouldn't back down. The lead grew to as many as 14 before
Jelany White hit from deep to make it 68-59, but the Sea Warriors would get no closer.
Marko Cukic had 12 points and five rebounds as White and Lyons had 11 and 10 points respectively. Ziegenhagen also led the team in rebounding with six.
Kyle Milligan had a team-high four assists.
The Sea Warriors are a half-game behind Academy of Art for the last spot in the PacWest Tournament.
HPU will close the regular season against Chaminade at McCabe Gym on Saturday at 7:30 PM.
