University of Hawaii Highlights Women’s Soccer Slate

HONOLULU, HI (August 26, 2012) – Head Coach Gina Brewer announced a late edition to the schedule, and it was worth the wait. Hawai'i Pacific will visit the University of Hawaii on September 25th at the UH Lower Campus Soccer Field .

"We have a great opportunity in our last non-conference game when we take on our crosstown DI school, the University of Hawaii-Manoa. We know its players are very good and will be extremely athletic and fast so we will have to stay focused and disciplined all 90 minutes. This game is definitely going to prepare us for conference play," said Brewer.

The matchup has an interesting coaching story line. Brewer was an assistant at UH in 2008, and during the same time, Hawaii Head Coach Michelle Nagamine was leading the Sea Warriors.

Also in non-conference play, HPU will host a solid Cal State Bernardino club on September 7th at Atherton Field.

"CSUSB is going to be a very challenging game for us right off the bat. They beat our PacWest conference champion Cal Baptist last year 3-1 so we know we are in for a tough battle but it will be a fun competitive game," said Brewer.

The rest of the non-conference schedule includes BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade, twice. All three matches will be at Atherton Field, including the opener vs. CUH on September 5th.

While the UH match will be a great showcase of women's soccer in Hawaii, Brewer's primary focus is on winning in the Pacific West Conference. The most difficult part of the schedule comes right away as the Sea Warriors play the best in the league on the road.

"We have a tough conference road trip where we play four games in eight days, three of the teams finished in the top three in the PacWest Conference last year," said Brewer.

HPU will then have a six-match home stand in late October and early November. The Columbia Blue and Kelley Green will celebrate senior day against Academy of Art on November 2nd.

The Sea Warriors will close the regular season much like it began, with matches against BYU-H and Chaminade, this time on the road.

"We have the capability to come out on top in all of these games, but we are going to need all of our players to be at their absolute best! We have been looking forward to the 2013 season for months now so we are ready and excited for another great year!" said Brewer.
