Sea Warrior Offense Clicking on Road Trip

Box Score AZUSA, CA (September 30, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Soccer Team (4-2-1, 2-0) remained hot in game two of its mainland road trip, defeating Azusa Pacific (6-3, 3-1) by the score of 3-0. The victory snaps the Cougars six game win streak.

The Sea Warriors controlled play early, but struggled to find the back of the net despite owning a 10-5 shot advantage in the first period.

Midfielder Erik Kemsies broke the tie just 1:30 in to the second frame on a free quick from 45 yards out for his second goal of the season.  Less than three minutes later junior Dylan Hardie-Jordan took a feed from Felipe Silva and tucked a shot just inside the far post from 15 yards out to give the Sea Warriors a 2-0 lead.

Desperately needing a score, the Cougars poured on the pressure, but the HPU defense held strong with senior keeper Mael Lefebvre making several key saves down the stretch.

Silva would add an insurance goal in the 81st minute on a counter attack to give the Sea Warriors the 3-0 win.

Lefebvre played perhaps his best game of the season for HPU making eight saves on the night to preserve the shut out.

The Sea Warriors have now scored ten goals in the last three games, including 13 points from Silva over that same span.

Head Coach Chris Fisher commented on his team's effort Monday night, "We just beat a very good team in Azusa Pacific. Our guys stuck to the game plan until the final whistle. The score was not indicative of how close this game was. We were fortunate to finish our chances."

In the midst of a road trip where his team plays four games in seven days, Fisher looked ahead, "Our team is playing well right now. The defense is solid and we have special attacking players."

The Sea Warriors now head to Riverside to face California Baptist on October 3. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. PST.
