Box Score Oakland, CA (October 21, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (8-4-1, 5-3) defeated Holy Names University (0-11, 0-7) 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Oakland.
The Sharks dominated the game from the beginning on, posting five corner kicks and one good shot on goal from
Lexi Cameau within the first 17 minutes.
Eighteen minutes into the game,
Breanna Gaddis grabbed the lead for the Sharks with a shot from inside the box after a pass from
Erika Ellis.
After the goal, the Sharks became even more aggressive and tried hard to put another goal in right away. The HNU keeper was busy saving good shots from
Ashlyn Ubongen (20') and Gaddis (22').
In the 26th minute, Ubongen sent a good cross inside the box where Cameau was waiting to make it 2-0 with a powerful shot. It was Cameau's fifth goal of the season.
HPU kept making the plays and dominated the game for the rest of the first period.
In the second half, HPU played a calm and experienced style without giving HNU any opportunity to develop chances. Ellis had one more good shot on target, but the keeper saved it (78').
"It was a good first win on the road. Now we need to keep the momentum going for another tough road game on Thursday," said Head Coach
Gina Brewer after the game.
HPU was also leading the statistics in shots (8 -6). All of HPU's shots went on goal whereas just three of the Hawks' shots found its way on the target. Keeper
Kelby Boswell had a quiet afternoon, requiring just three saves. Ubongen and Gaddis led HPU with two shots each.
The Sharks will play their next game on Thursday, October 23rd, against Dominican University of California in San Rafael, CA.
