Box Score FRESNO, CA (October 25, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (9-4-2, 6-3-1) finished its road trip with a 1-1 tie against Fresno Pacific University (5-6-2, 5-2-2) on Saturday night.
HPU started with a good shot from
Erika Ellis in the seventh minute. Both teams played aggressive soccer and managed to create good chances. However, it was the Sharks who grabbed the lead.
Twenty-five minutes into the game,
Lexi Cameau struck with a powerful, long shot from outside the box into the right corner of the goal.
Following, the Sunbirds were able to break HPU's play with some hard attacks, resulting in several fouls on HPU.
After the changeover, FPU also had some good shots, but keeper
Kelby Boswell, who finished with a remarkable nine saves, kept the goal clean until the 75th minute as the Sunbirds tied the game with a header after a corner kick.
In the final minutes of the game, HPU had some more good chances, but shots from
Ashlyn Ubongen and Ellis did not find its way into the goal.
Both teams tried hard to win the game in overtime, but neither one managed to score, resulting in 1-1 after 110 minutes.
"The team battled hard tonight. It was a good game with both teams having their chances. I am happy with two wins and a tie for this road trip, " said Head Coach
Gina Brewer after the game.
The statistics present an advantage in shots (23-13) and shots on goal (10-4) for the Sunbirds. Ubongen led the Sharks with six shots. The physically hard play resulted in a total of 31 fouls (FPU 17-14) and five yellow cards (FPU 3-2).
The Sharks will now travel back to Hawai'i to play their last home game of the season against Chaminade University on Saturday, November 1st, in Kaneohe. Kick off is scheduled for 3pm at Atherton Field.
