Box Score HONOLULU, HI (November 15, 2014)- The Hawai'i Pacific Volleyball Team (15-11, 13-7) took down UH Hilo (9-14, 8-12) Saturday night at St. Andrew's Priory in four sets (25-22, 28-30, 25-13, 25-21) to send HPU's seniors off on a high note.
In the first set, neither side was able to take a controlling lead. However, with the score tied at 19, the Sharks went on a 4-1 run to seize the lead and win at 25-22.
After trailing 16-11 at one point in the second set,
Elizabeth Culpepper had two big kills as the Sharks went on a run once again and tied the game at 24. The exciting second set went deep into "overtime," but the Vulcans edged out a 30-28 win.
Set three was all HPU. The Sharks ran off two separate five point streaks to take the set easily at 25-13.
In set four, the Vulcans did their best to keep the game close but could not keep up with the Sharks' offense. After breaking a 10-10 tie, the Sharks offense rolled on and maintained a four-point lead to the end, winning 25-21.
Senior
Haley Doerfler was extraordinary in her final match of her career, hitting for a tremendous .476 hitting percentage to lead the Sharks.
Pomai Recca notched a season-high with 21 kills, while
Tenika Wentworth had a game-high 51 assists.
Amanda Moriarty led the Sharks defense once again with a game-high 23 digs as libero.
The match marks the end of the season for the Sharks as they finish with an above .500 record for the sixth consecutive year. HPU says goodbye to Doerfler,
Hannah Schuett,
Marie Fujii, and
Christina Furrer.

The ladies now look ahead to the spring semester where they move to the sands of Waikiki for off-season work.
