Long Scores 33 but Men’s Basketball Falls

Box Score SAN DIEGO, CA (February 13, 2014) – Justin Long and Leif Rodney were masterful, combining for 55 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as host Point Loma (15-8, 10-7) dropped the Hawai'i Pacific Men's Basketball Team (12-9, 7-8)  91-84 in Southern California.

The first half was promising for HPU, the Sea Warriors led by 14 points with 5:35 left in the opening half after a basket by Jordan Garrett. By the break, the lead was still five at 37-32.

Fouls were troublesome for HPU as Malte Ziegenhagen, Farbod Farman, and Long were all disqualified with five fouls. Ziegenhagen and Farman, two of HPU's mainstays, only combined for eight points before leaving the ballgame.

Long, a California native, showed off for the home folks with 33 points, including five three-pointers.

Rodney had arguably his best game in a Sea Warrior uniform with 22 points and six rebounds. His shooting touch was impeccable, hitting 7-8 (87.5%) from the field including 1-1 from long range and adding a perfect 7-7 from the foul line.

Freshman Colfax Nordquist, who has made great strides during his first season, led HPU with seven rebounds and four assists to go with his seven points.

The Sea Warriors now travel north to Azusa, CA to play Azusa Pacific on Saturday night.
