Neil Everett Morfitt, known just as Neil Everett, is the first non-coach or athlete ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Everett may know more about Sea Warrior sports than anyone ever. He worked for 15 years at HPU and was in charge of sports publications, statistics and media relations. He was the longest tenured SID in the athletics department's history. Everett was the story teller for three of HPU's five national championships.
In 2000, Everett put HPU on the national map when he was hired as an anchor at ESPN. Since then, Everett excelled and became one of the top anchormen in the business. Currently, he is the host of ESPN's SportsCenter based in Los Angeles.
Brown earned her spot in the hall of fame by leading the volleyball team to the 1990 NAIA National Championship. That season the Sea Warriors went 23-7 and beat Texas Wesleyan 3-1 in the final. The late 1980's and early 1990's were a magical time for Coach Brown's teams, advancing to the national final in 1989 and earning a third place finish in 1988.
She was selected as the Honolulu Quarterback Club's Sportswomen of the Year and Russell NAIA Coach of the Year in 1990. Overall, she coached eight seasons at HPU with a career record of 109-83.
Blomme was a rare talent that excelled in two sports at HPU. However, it was her performance as a cross country runner that left a lasting impression. She earned back-to-back All-American honors in 2000 and 2001. In 2000, she finished in 7th place at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships (22:07). Bloome followed that up with a 12th place finish at the 2001 NCAA National Cross Country Championships (22:08).
During the spring season Blomme was a key contributor on the women's tennis team. In 1999, she earned a national singles rank of #59 while leading the team to a national ranking of #15. By 2001 she improved to #25, narrowly missing All-American honors on a team that finished #12 in the land.
The 1992-1993 men's basketball team at HPU is widely regarded as the best collegiate basketball team from the state of Hawai'i, it is the only team, at any level, to win a national championship. The team went 30-4 and beat Oklahoma Baptist 88-83 in a thrilling final. The Sea Warriors won the final as a team, overcoming potentially cataclysmic injuries.
HPU was coached by hall of famer Tony Sellitto, and assistant coaches Russell Dung, Francis Fletcher, Darrell Matsui, and Mel Miyamoto. The team featured Miko Ajanovic, Andy Gardiner, Casey Hines, Roger Huggins, Michael Johnson, Mike McDaniel, Brendan Murphy, Misho Ognjanovic, David Smith, Shane Takeshita, James Williams, and Lemar Young.
This is the fourth class to be inducted into the HPU Athletics Hall of Fame, presented by Wealth Strategy Partners. The 2014 class will join HPU legends Benny Agbayani, Tita Ahuna, Jurgen Malbeck, Susie Schoales, Llewellyn Smalley, Gabriela Artigas, Nina Christensen, Mikael Maatta,
Howard Okita, Tony Sellitto, Les Akeo Jr., Nia Tuitele, Debbie Sant'Anna, Erik Sandblom, and Todd Iacovelli.
