Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 25, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Soccer Team (3-2-1, 0-1) started PacWest play with a 2-1 loss against Academy of Art University (1-5-1, 1-0) on Thursday.
HPU started the game aggressive and outgoing with three shots in the first six minutes of the game.
Following was a game that presented good offensive play from both teams and several good shots from the Sharks. After the first period, HPU was leading in shots by 9-3.
However, it was the Urban Knights who grabbed the lead after a defended header led to a loose ball inside the box, which was converted by the home team (57').
The Sharks continued their offensive play but were not able to convert their chances and tie the game. In the 61st minute,
Stephanie Martinez fired a powerful shot on the goal but it was saved once again by the Art U keeper.
Just three minutes later the Urban Knights struck again with a lob over the keeper from 22 yards out.
The Sharks answered with an all-out attack in the last minutes of the game. HPU had seven shots in not even ten minutes before
Erika Ellis finally managed to score for HPU (90'). After a good shot from
Ashlyn Ubongen, the keeper was just able to deflect the ball to the side where Ellis was waiting to boot it in.
The remaining seconds were not enough for the hard fighting Sharks to tie the game.
"We had our chances but we need to be more effective on our final pass and shot," commented Head Coach
Gina Brewer after the game.
Despite the loss, the Sharks significantly led the statistics in shots (20-10). Six of the Sharks' shots were on target whereas just five of Art U's shots were on goal. Sharks' keeper
Kelby Boswell had three saves compared to five saves from the Art U goalie.
The Sharks will play their next game on Saturday, September 27, in Belmont, CA, against Notre Dame de Namur University.
