HONOLULU, HI (January 28, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Athletics Department is holding the fourth annual Kam's Helmets Night on February 8th at the Blaisdell Center. Free bike or skateboard helmets will be given out to any student in remembrance of Kameron Steinhoff, a former HPU basketball player who died from a head injury suffered in a skate boarding accident. Moped helmets will also be available to HPU students.

The helmets will be distributed at the men's basketball game against cross-town rival Chaminade, tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.  

Nearly four years ago after Steinhoff's tragic accident, HPU established Kam's Helmets in conjunction with The Queen's Medical Center's Trauma Center and ThinkFirst Hawaii to provide helmets to children in order to prevent accident related tragedies.

To date, HPU has given away over 700 helmets over the first three years of the program.

Again this year, donations from the Steinhoff family and T&T Tinting have been vital in keeping this project going.

Steinhoff, an HPU Men's Basketball player who had just finished his third year, passed away on May 18, 2011. Steinhoff, a 2008 Punahou graduate and former Hawaii State Player of the Year, played in 51 games for HPU. He was a popular student-athlete, teammate, friend, brother, uncle, and son who touched the lives of many.
