Box Score HONOLULU, HI (January 8, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific University Men's Basketball Team (9-4, 4-3) sent Notre Dame de Namur (2-11, 1-6) home deflated after Thursday's 68-47 victory.
The first half of the game was tightly contested as both teams struggled to find the hoop. NDNU shot just 37% (10-27) in the first half while the Sharks shot slightly better at 40% (11/27).
Luke Hager sent the Sharks into the locker room up by one on a smooth drive to the basket for a nice layup at the buzzer.
The Sharks came out after the half with renewed energy and immediately took over the game. Both offensively and defensively the Sharks were the superior team. The Sharks shot a ridiculous 63% (14-22) in the second half. The lockdown D held NDNU down to a paltry 28% (8-28) shooting.
Connor Looney especially came out hot scoring 10 points and dishing out two assists in just seven minutes in the second half.
"This game was a true team effort, we had our most balanced minutes and production of the year. We made some adjustments at halftime that allowed us to execute better in the second half. When we shoot over 50% from the field, like we did tonight, it makes the game much easier," said Head Coach
Darren Vorderbruegge.
Hager was once more a force in the paint. He scored 19 points and was 8-12 from the field, while pulling down nine rebounds and racking up five assists.
The Sharks had three players in double-digit points for the game, Hager, Looney, and
Darry Jones Jr., who had 11. This was arguably the Sharks best game at distributing the ball as the team racked up 14 assists in the win.
The Sharks take on Fresno Pacific University on Saturday (January 10) at Moanalua High School at 1:00 pm. Saturday's game will be the last home game before going on a four-game road trip.
